Over the last 25 years (or, since I was in high school) I have performed, recorded, painted and written under plenty of different names. Some I gave myself, and others were given to me.

Recently—August 10th 2024—I appeared on the Muskegon Farmer’s Market stage as Whale KiteThe name makes a simple juxtaposition…of an immense aquatic animal with a light, breezy day at the sea. Of course, the actual whale-like kite I can sometimes be seen flying at Pere Marquette was a direct influence. The beautiful beaches and nautical aspects of the area have something to do with it as well.

Sir K’yelb—the “me” you saw at the 2024 Lakeside Fall Festival—is a sort of false-semordnilap, as names go. In that way, it is probably the closest to my real name that a stage name has ever come. But I digress. My point here is:

It is unimportant to me whether you remember my name–whatever it may be at the moment–or my face. I only hope you appreciated or enjoyed the performance. This is my one and only concern as a performer, musician and artist.

Beyond that, I have loved watching Muskegon grow in the two years I’ve lived here. I am more than happy to contribute my seasoning to the flavor of the city. It’s the least I can do, honestly.

Again, thank you very much for your support.

Thank you also to the organizers of Lakeside Fall Fest for including me in this year’s event.
